I would like to encourage you to keep at it, and learn all you can. I would highly recommend the summer workshops that are held in various places. The first year that I did that, I was amazed, and humbled, by the steep learning curve. Working with experts in a class like that is absolutely amazing. In my experience, there are people of all different skill levels taking these classes, and I learn a huge amount by seeing all the different repair challenges that the other students bring to the class. When you get a dozen or so students all doing different repairs under the supervision of a master luthier, you learn a lot. Books are great, but the good ones can be quite expensive.
That's why some of the info on the web can be so bad. People are putting all kinds of stuff out there, without the proper training, making themselves self proclaimed experts. Other people trying to learn, don't know the difference.
Sorry about the rant. _________________ Doug Wall

If you want a good site... Be sure you post only reliable and accurate information. For instance your link to "repair violin bow" is about clarinets, not bows and is written in rather poor english! You need to check the content of information and you need to be in control.
A FiddleDoug said if you want a good site, develop your own skills first then you will know what is worthy of posting or linking to.
Good luck... Mat |

You might do better to have articles contributed by experienced repair persons, and limit your liability. You might then let them put in banner ads in exchange for the posting their articles. With author permission, you may be able to pull some really important information into the site.
What you don't want to do is pose as an expert or endorse methods you don't understand.
Differentiate between violin owner "maintenance" from actual "repair" between which there is a world of difference. _________________ Dave in the Blue Ridge
