I have a fiddle that the plate where the sound post sit`s is raised at fhe F hole I think it is from having the sound post too long a long time ago.
I have been making it a little shorter over time to see if it will stay down .
Is it possible to push it down somehow without cracking the plate
Its 116 years old I have had it for over 30 years
Oh if I loosen the strings the sound post falls down . Any one have a fix
or just leave it alone . Ken

The tendency over time is for the E side of the top to go up, and the G side to go down. If it's extreme, you aren't doing any harm by fitting a shorter post, but that may not fix the situation.
