FWIW, the January Strad magazine has a review if the Ossman book, by John Dilworth, in case anyone is interested. He did not give it a good review BTW.

I have been learning to make myself, and while I am not a novice to woodworking, I am still trying to learn how to make my first violin, so I have found that a blog on making has been most helpful, as a picture is worth a thousand words, and a video even more.

One thing I learned, at least for me, is that if one is concerned with doing a good job of making a violin, you really need more information than is included in a book like Ossman's There are some critical measurements that are not found there. I can't imagine that someone would want to take on the challenge of building a violin without wanting to make it as functionally accurate and beautiful as possible. Knowing what I know now, I would have spent the extra money for the Courtnall & Johnson book. I got mine online for less than $100.00. You won't regret it. It's kinda like bikers sometimes say - If you got a $10.00 head buy a $10 dollar helmet.
