Found this in with a violin that came in for repair....
Seems like a vibrato gadget... does any one have any history on this?
Cheers, Mat

Don't know for sure-- I have one, too, that came in a box of fiddle junk. I assumed it was a type of mute. Mine didn't have the box with it.

I tried it on my violin and if you "kickstart" the ball on the flex connector it starts to swing. while playing, the "swing" creates quite the vibrato... but it does not go for long... ay least for me.... not sure how you would actually use it in a performance.
I did a quick search for the patent but could not find it... maybe it was never finally filed.
Cheers, Mat

It's a lightning rod for playing out in the rain. If lightning strikes it will miss the player and blow up the violin instead.

It has to bend towards the player to miss the bow. Will the electronic boys make a new version .It would need less weight or it would certainly mute the sound .Superglue something under the fingerboard ? Imagine that twanging you in the eyeball.

How about a wrench for adjusting bridge tilt? Or perhaps some king of sighting device so that you can keep track of where you are on the sheet music?
