AI has advice for anyone seeking copies of famous violins for Sound.
The advice is to look for copies of famous makers instruments made by Stradivarius , Guarneri del Gesu and Antonio Stradivari.
There you go .That`s all you need to know . Three really good makers .

If you choose a maker you need to work out what kind of sound you prefer. There is more than one violin sound .Plates cut too thin will be permanently loud.There are several diagrams that show what thicknesses were used by famous makers .You might make a violin thicker to see what happens .You could take that apart and change things which would be good practice for dissasembly . Nobody will make a perfect untouchable violin right off the bat .It`s early doors to worry about the "right" design before you try to make one. Sometimes the skills like sharpening and having a steady workbench are more important. Keep a notebook about what you make and all the measurements needed . Don`t spend years working out how to boil your own varnish recipe .
See if you can follow all those diagrams Stradivari drew for placing the soundholes etc. He did all the hard work for you years ago . The diagrams are on Michael Darnton`s site. You just need a ruler and a compass .
A small book --Notice of Anthony Stradivari --by F.J.Fetis written in 1864 tells us about Paganini and his violin repair. The repairer Fetis noted all the dimensions while the top was off and later gave the copy to Paganini who said it had the same tone as his original.
That copy was given to Paganini`s only pupil -Sivori . So it is possible to make a tonal copy .
