Ct, I like the idea of a plan, so I plan to try one of Kevin's out. Probably the 3:8 one that he demonstrates as a Stradivarius model.
Hummf! My spell check just inserted Stradivarius in place of my spelling of Strad, it's getting a little bossy!

It's just suggesting, man ...

Let's allow the machines just a TINY BIT of personal space - shall we?

After all, the machine age is just starting, and we'll have to learn that they DO after all, have a mind of their own, and that they do deserve just a LITTLE BIT OF ROOM, in order to correct us.

We're only people after all, and prone to human mistakes.

Hmmm, I hate having to point this out, but hey, my computer realizes that I'm being fair minded about it. And my computer is my friend.
Period, end of sentence.
Yeah, ok, I'll go now.

(Don, you will post further about this venture into a design plan based on Kevin's work, I hope! and, sorry about taking my computer's side on this issue - )

Ct, I have drawn Kevin's 3,8 scroll, on a larger scale as a study. I'm not going to get to making a whole new pattern yet, but just from drawing it gives me a better concept of what to do as i carve from my regular template, which is close. I'm trying to do just neck/scrolls this week.
I'm not worried about anything you may have said related to the computer thing, it was just me being irate about one thing or another, it just happened to be the spell check at that time.

Sorry Don, that was just my grande boca trying to have some fun...

Yes, I know exactly what you're doing, that is I think I do. I'm also involved in looking at scrolls, and deciding on a new pattern for making a more geometric winding.
Though I'm not sure how much of my "problem" with scrolls originates from my crappy carving and how much originates from an incorrect drawing to start with - I'm going to assume that since I can see a problem with my scroll template that I've been using for some years running (a problem in the way I look at the proportions, that is) that there does exist patterns that avoid this particular idiosyncricity. (wow, my computer refuses to identify that word... and I'm not sure it's spelled anywhere near correct!)

I also am looking at the fluting at the top of the scroll and am unhappy with the way my central peak rises above the two outer peaks.. Grrr! Time to get back to work.

I'll post some of my efforts, in the hopes that you'll also post some of yours...
That is AFTER I make this next scroll.
