Mine is small enough to fit where it has to fit, by trial and error.

I don't know the radius but Michael's comment hits the nail on the head. The wire ties are ok but not perfect, just use pliers to tighten them up. It would be nice to innovate a little more on that though! One thing you don't see is a little stop block that is in the V groove that the tool rests against to keep the tool from moving down. In use I cut the last 6 to 8mm of the purfling chanel into the corners by hand.
Best,
Mike Spencer

You can see for yourself.

The tightest 'C' bout corner is a diameter of about 32 mm, so you can, with Michael's design, go into the concave corners, or just do the convex bouts, and leave the corners to the hand.

You can see that you want a large radius on the brass pin so you will have the best of both worlds, concave and convex.

Is there a video of Michael's tool being used anywhere????

That looks like the exact cutter or bit I use when cutting my own purfling groove. The one that I couldn't remember the Manufacturer/Part No. for.

Mike or violinarius, do you remember the part no./supplier?

Thanks
ct

The company I got mine from was RobbJack.

Page 15 of their current catalogue has SR-2-047 2 flute.

0.047 inches is 1.1938 mm

You can get the TiN Coated version for a little more money.

I use the 1.3 mm bit International Violin sells. I sure wouldn't want one any smaller. I'm on my second one now, after the first got almost imperceptibly dull.
