I have been studying the work of Carleen Hutchins.
In her work these terms are used without simple explanations of what they mean.
So far I believe I understand (please correct me if I have it wrong) that
A0 is the air cavity resonance frequency when blowing across the G side f hole. Is there a way to measure this freq with a microphone?
B0 is the entire violin body resonance freq when supported at a node near the nut and the at the widest part of the lower bout. (this took a week to find out gleaning through the entire internet)
The rest B1 B-1 A1 and A-1 in her articles just go on as if it is common knowledge. No matter how much I search no one explains these terms in a way that I can understand.

I hope someone answers you about this Fred.
Probably fifteen years back I might have been able to answer you.
If no one does, I'll go ahead and look this particular up in my two vol. Research Papers in Violin Acoustics 1975 - 1993 (Carleen Hutchins, Editor)
If I can still lift the d*mned books, that is.
It'll be in there, multiple times, I guarantee it.
Lets wait a bit and see if someone answers first though, OK?

| They are body and air resonances or modes. I can't tell you what they are but a site that might illustrate them for you is one by Martin Schleske (sp?). He has some color animations that should help , hopefully. |

Fgayford, if you ever get anything out of this inquiry that helps you make better violins, or even helps you understand them better, please post of the results here ...
