And here a baroque viola, both violas are in South Africa now, the baroque was a comission.

I've been wondering what you've been up to!

As always, lots of character... your instruments could never hide in a crowd.

Congrats...

Great work as always Manfio.

Nice joins and stings on the corner purfling, and a great varnish/color scheme.

As always. One day I would like to come across one of your instruments, so I could feel and play it firsthand.
Who knows? One day...

(I hate trying to come up with sufficient complements every time you post something, so, why don't you post something really crappy for a change so I can vary my replies a bit - cool ?)

Very nice as usual Manfio, You seem to have found a consistent color and technique for your varnishing. I especially like the texture and transparency of your varnish and it doesn't appear that you polish out a lot.
I wish that I could be so consistent but I'm still wandering in the wilderness of varnishing.

Hi Cliff! I don't have time to make experiments with varnish so I have not changed it for years. I will have to change things as soon as my stock of Koen Padding's varnish (Magister) finishes... But I make the ground with my own varnish (Marciana).
Thanks!

Very nice work !

I always enjoy seeing what you are up to.

You are not alone with your varnish situation, as most makers now are starting to run out of Koen's varnish. I heard that there is a project underway to collect as much information as possible on Koen's teaching/help, so a book can be made.

Thanks for posting.

Thanks!

I still may have Koen Padding's varnish for about 20 instruments... I use just two coats of it in my instruments... We read everyday in the media that "pople are replaceble", I hope someone will replace Koen as a varnish makers, but I have my doubts.

Roger Hargrave, who was Koen's friend mentioned that no recipe was left and that Koen had no assistant, and that the varnishes will not be produced again.

I will try to make my own for the coloured coats too.
