I have some relatively new violin rosin. "Liebenzeller Gold 1"
Has anyone been using this, and what is your opinion of it? Did you clean
your bowhair before applying it, or put it on over the old rosin.

Liebenzeller feels smooth but has a good grip when needed. I use it on occasion to tone down any raspy sounds.
I only wipe the bow with a cloth before going to another rosin. The soap and water and /or alcohol approaches generally cause more problems than they solve.
I don't think this rosin is worth the extra money but I could understand someone raving about it also. It does feel "different".
(After 5 years of "battle" with maybe 6 or 7 rosins, I now use plain old "student block" !)

I am not a regular player, but when folks bring in violins for ajustments, one of the things I find is rosin buildup on the strings which creates a raspy sort of sound. Real easy to cure ... rub the tops of the strings with high grade 0000 steel wool...LIGHTLY... just two or three strokes. The steel wool cuts the excess layer of rosin and you get a nice smoothe tone. Some folks clean the strings with cloth , but that only smoothens the rosin and leaves a bumpy layer on the strings.
Try Bill salchow rosin... thats all I use in my shop.
