After my cochlear implant the long process of hearing again began. Music is not the main focus for audiologists . But a normal piano or a classical guitar were easy to hear straight away .
One maddening effect came when I tried a violin.The sound would drop suddenly after 2 seconds.Then I had to wait ten seconds for the implant to resume normal operation.
I described that to a number of audiologists and they had no answer for me.
Last week I asked the question on my laptop and AI chipped in to tell me how to fix the problem. I had guessed it was about Automatic Gain Control. AI said it could be switched off completely for music .
So I arranged an appointment. I managed to persuade my audiologist to make the setting change. My first attempt when I got home was a 100 % success. Normal hearing is back again .
I think the technical people who are Not Deaf or Violin players have left a gap in the instructions for audiologists.
I wrote a thankyou letter to the main coordinator to spread the word for Bowed String Players. We have been left out of the party too long .
Other than the switch off anomaly my hearing quality is back to what I knew before I went deaf. Nothing sounds strange or metallic now .
