|
|
I was visiting the site of the Presidio at Goliad (one of the three major battles between General Santa Ana and the rebels in Texas) and came upon an Anacua tree in the outter yard of the Presidio. Its also called "sandpaper" tree, so for you purists that don't use any tools that didn't exist in the time of the great 16th century makers, then this tree might be right up your alley.
You can see my thumbnail looks like its been sanded by 400 grit sandpaper, and on the leaf you can see sanding dust on the leaf itself. Surprisingly effective. The only problem, it probably wasn't available to our friend Antonio unless he built fiddles in San Antonio or further south along the Rio Grand. Its considered an evergreen, and a great shade tree.
Anyway, just thought it'd be fun to share.

| I wonder how it holds up when dry, or could you use it fresh? interesting |

What I used was fresh fallen from the tree, but still mostly green. I would think this is when you would want to use it, not dry and brittle. _________________ Dave in the Blue Ridge
