I recently delivered five instruments to a dealer, and the only thing left in the house is an old Ficker (german) instrument that needs some work. Every evening, I would take each out of the cabinet, and play them, one by one, for 10-15 minutes each, retuning, occasionally taking the bridge off and thinning a bit here, moving the soundpost a bit there. This is 2-3 years of companionship with each, all well played in. Now I'm lonely!! I must finish another so that I can sit and spend time with it! I feel like I've lost my children. Am I the only one that has trouble "letting go"?

Well, I don't seem to have that problem.... but then I am not a real player, and my driving force is to experience that expression of glee when I deliver a repaired/restored instrument to a client. some examples...
"wow, that bow now plays by itself!"
" I can't even see where the split was!"
"Now that sounds like a real violin!"... etc etc.
So if I don't let go and sell/deliver a repair, I'd never experience that rush!

Yeah, it's fun when you replace a missing corner, and the owner gets it back and is minutely examining the wrong corner, muttering, "...that's really good!"
