I ran across this link today. Some of you might have seen this before but this is pretty amazing.

Any violin makers out there dabble in other types of carving at all that's non-violin related?

Very artistic carving! (guffaw!)
I'm impressed.
I've done some minor carving work, but have concentrated primarily on pencil work, then painting, and violins.
Thanks for posting this - it's pretty cool. _________________ Look,

| An uncle of mine (who's passed on now) was an amazing carver. He carved animals. His specialties were bears and birds. The fur and the feathers looked completely real. I'm thankful to have one of his eagle head carvings! Wish I had a fraction of his talent! He once made a chinrest for me out of some extra makassar ebony that he used for his sculpture bases. I'll keep that forever. |

Bet I could carve a good facsimile of that dog food bin you see at 1:04 in the video. |
