| Exacto keyhole saw to cut a slot down the middle, most of the rest with a #11 scalpel blade in a custom wood handle, a little finalizing with a homemade double-sided single-bevel knife. |

I don't have a link. There is a pic of it somewhere on MN, I think in a thread about (what else?) cutting f-holes. I'm not sure I can find it and don't have time to look.
It's pretty simple, two piece with a thin recess carved out of one side and a couple of strategically placed panel nails to align the blade. The handle is held together by a couple of machine screws with one half of the handle threaded. Wood screws or tape would work.
The objective was to cover the most fragile part of the blade and shorten up the grip, both of which are drawbacks to the standard scalpel handles. Before I did this I regularly broke blades. Since, I have never broken one and it's been several years. |

Here's what I use to cut f-holes. The sawblades are no5, whatever that means. I think it's more important to have a really sharp knife.
The lower knife is made of an old cut off straight razor, (I use the rest of the blade as a scroll scraper) You can get it razor sharp
The upper knife is a chinese "bridge knife" that one can buy on ebay cheaply. I used that one before and it works quite well for f-holes.
