A previous thread made me wonder..... In making a nut, it is shaped such that the bearing point for the string is at the very edge of the nut almost parallel to the line of the string.
So extrapolating on that, is same principle applied for the bridge? In other words, the ideal shape of the string groove should be a depth of half the thickness of the string and the contour should be rounded such that the string is bearing on the edge of the bridge front and back?
Or am I over thinking, considering the softness of the bridge material?

I think you are possibly over-thinking this one, and so am I, since I do ramp the groove in the bridge up towards the board. Whether the softness of the bridge cancels this out or not, I don't know, but at least I can feel that I did my best, as well as I understand the problem. _________________ new blog at my site! http://darntonviolins.com/blog
