Hello.

I've read quite a bit about the 1:6 ratio with regard to violins and mandolins, and if I understand correctly it means that ideally the distance between the bridge and tailpiece is one-sixth the distance from the bridge to the nut, and this is beneficial in terms of harmonics or resonance? I was wondering if someone could tell me if there would be any benefit to applying this principle to a semi-hollow body guitar build, since I have the freedom to position the bridge and tailpiece any way I'd like on this instrument. It's a 20" scale, and I have plenty of room. Technically, I suppose it's not even a guitar at a 20" scale, but I won't bore you with all of the technical details unless someone is really interested.

I was also wondering whether the other non-resonating string distance, at the other end of the instrument (between the tuners and nut), also comes into play and should be factored in. So I suppose that's two questions.

Er.. here's a third if anyone knows and has the time and interest to reply. Would it make a difference if I were drawing a bow across the strings?

I understand how string length (beyond the scale length) affects the feel or playability of the instrument, just not how it might affect the actual sound.

Thank you.
