I have this "Tubbs" bow to repair... It has been previously glued with epoxy (I think) ... 2 questions...
1- I intend to cut a kerf and insert a Pernambucco spline into the nose of the head. what thickness of spline works best?
2- Any suggestions as to how to clean off the old epoxy?
Any other suggestions?

Thanks for your help... Mat

That looks like it could be "super glue" to me. If it is; acetone will soften it. If it's epoxy; hot water may eventually loosen it.

I would use a spline no more than 1/3rd the width of the thinnest part of the head. After gluing the head back together; I'd find a saw blade that size and make the cut first, then make the spline to match. The spline needs to fit well to all surfaces. I use "Quick-it" blue for those type of repairs.
