Mat , French polish is too delicate for a violin . It will work on a guitar which is a nice flat surface. There is room to work when you want to start all over again . No fingerboard and complicated soundholes to get in the way . French polish is designed to be refreshed or redone completely now and again. Using it on a violin will not be a good long term idea . It might sound nice in between though . Let me know what happens .
