Thanks, all. The house was built by my parents (and us boys) when I was 13. It is one of the old Lindall Cedar Homes, from the sixties. Ann and I bought it from the estate when Mom died, about 15 years ago.
I hope some cellists show up at the show this weekend. I'm not a player.
Thanks for the encouragement.

| Chet that is very nice! Cellos seem very intimidating to me cause they're so big but they seem to provide a comfortable space to do the woodworking, I think the most beautifully carved scrolls are on cellos. Very nice work and congratulations! |

The cello is playable, and sounds good, but there are still some "issues": I need to remove the nut and re-dress the north few inches of the board, as there is a slightly high spot there, causing a buzz, when I bow aggressively. The bridge needs to be just a bit taller, so I will be fitting a new one. (sigh...) and the soundpost needs to move West, so it is too short, and I will be fitting a new one.
If all of that results in a great cello, I am pleased. If it turns out just so-so, I will be disappointed. Can't rule it out, yet, though my ears and eyes tell me it is going to be a good one.
Haven't located the wolf, yet (and won't really try until all the other stuff is finalized), but I have a wolf-eliminator set aside for "insurance".
Anyway...here it is:
Thanks for looking. If any of you live close enough to drop by the show, please stop by my table (first on the left as you enter.)

For those interested; The show went well, and it was a very encouraging weekend. No cello sale, but I did sell the five-string fiddle. I will deliver it this evening.
Several other people were interested, but no other sales.
Two cellists played the new cello...both liked it a lot, but neither were in the market for a new cello. Still, it was good to hear it played.

Oh well - on the "other" sales.
For me, any sale is a happy occasion...

Cool.
Very often, I can only get a rough idea of my violins top musical qualities, when I hear (or can get ) a real violinist to wail on it (them) for a while..
Very often, the real possibilities (or, a possible unexpected weaknesses) will first show up then.
Curious ears want to know the details. _________________ Look,

2013 Marylhurst Musical Instrument Makers' Show
Here are some photos from the 2013 Marylhurst University Musical Instrument Makers' Show: (Most were taken before the show was open to the public-- these people are all the makers and vendors.)
It wasn't all guitars and fiddles, as you can see. This couple (above) makes Persian instruments called "Tars" (the larger ones) and Setars, (not "Sitars", which have 30 strings...traditionally, a Setar has three strings, but apparently about a century ago, a tradition of four-string setars began.) That little thing to the right of center is a setar.
There were also two banjo makers, several ukulele makers, mandolin makers, an orchestral harp maker, a lute maker, one double bass maker, and, yes, even a few fiddle makers. And every kind of guitar maker imaginable.
The table in the next photo was mine...I was sharing it with my son, who makes guitars. That worked out well. We had someone at our table nearly constantly.
In the picture above, Brian, my youngest son, had not yet arrived. In the one below, his girlfriend was helping set up his display.
There were approximately 500 visitors each day...it was a pretty encouraging weekend.
Thanks for looking. I did have a couple of folk from other fora show up, and a few I had met elsewhere. That was nice. _________________ Chet Bishop
