I wouldn't worry about tea. Tannic acid doesn't attack wood, and there's not much of it in tea, anyway.

| Does a tea stain alone, being acidic, also cause damage over time? Is there a way to neutralize the acid without diminishing the effect? |

Before shelling out for the Stewart MacDonald kit, you might want to check ebay. I wasn't impressed with the quality of the kit from stewmac and I don't imagine kits on ebay are much worse.
