You would get a 'similar' effect with a thicker bridge...I'd hesitate to say exactly the same as these things are about mass and wood quality too.

He probably did it to reduce excessive/unwanted/bad overtones.
You can replicate on a normal bridge with small wood wedges

If you get a chance.. try the Rezx...

Some neodymium magnets from e-bay etc. have the same effect. Much cheaper....

I don't know about bassbars, but have you tried a thicker bridge?.....
If its very strident and lacking complexity you could look at the thickness of the ribs...are they very thick...ie: sunlight or ...

Having just checked the Rezx site prices....get some geomag!...(2 discs in each piece)...discs are 3mm thick / 6mm diameter and highly polished with no sharp edges.....they can be stacked if you think ...

'Geomag' and 'magnetix' are 2 toy products with strong magnets....cut the magnets out and try these....on violin they seem to work...satisfy some curiousity and are cheap......

I've just salvaged a couple of long logs from a broken hawthorn to season....sealed the ends with candle wax. Should I leave the bark on or not? Confused ....any advice apreciated........

I looked at cue cases some time back too.....OK for travel....but those bow bugs love dark places...keep my surplus in sealed clear perspex tube now with a cedar stick....

I've straightened the end of a fingerboard in situ successfully with a heat gun. The end had bowed so it was touching the strings.
I did'nt protect the instrument as well as I might....just tin foil ...

Xylene can be had from auto factors....in the uk its available in a spray tin and called leveller...(for levelling paint finishes).
Its very powerful stuff....has its uses, but I would guess too stro ...
